My Predictions For The Top 10 Blockbusters Of Summer 2007

My Predictions For The Top 10 Blockbusters Of Summer 2007 by Rob Mead

The summer of 2007 is shaping up to be the BIGGEST blockbuster movie season of all time, no exaggeration.

Sequels dominate for the next 4 months like no other summer on record. Hollywood is banking big bucks on making sure that all their sequels exceed the $100 million mark at the very least, and go on to do $500 million worldwide later on in the year. This does sound like a no-brainer top ten list, but at least a couple of movies could bite the big one, and land like a thud...so make your own predictions, and we'll see who the better Nostradomas is! The dollar value for all the movies are based on end of summer grosses.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean- At World's End ($320 million domestic gross)

The last "Pirates" move grossed well over $500 million worldwide, and since this is the big bang ending to the trilogy, there is no reason to expect anything less than $320 million. Jerry Bruckheimer (the producer) will be a very happy man this summer.

2. SpiderMan 3 ($280 million domestic gross)Tobey Mcguire might suit up as Spidey for the last time, so this one MUST be bigger than the last two, or Columbia Pictures will be very disappointed. It is top loaded with 3 villians this time (Venom, Hob Goblin, SandMan), which means more action, less romance, always a good thing with fanboys.

3. Shrek the Third ($270 million domestic gross)A huge no-brainer since the last two helped Dreamworks Animation stay alive in the family animated market against the huge guns of Pixar. Adding Justin Timberlake to the mix as an obnoxious teenager only helps sweeten the huge pot of gold that is the Shrek franchise.

4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ($260 million domestic gross)The kids are finally growing up, and so is the revenue from this enormous franchise based on the books by J.K. Rowling. The book is very action oriented which lends itself to a bigger repeat audience than the last movie.

5. Transformers ($255 million domestic gross)This movie will be released on the 4th of July, a HUGE day for movies. It is also from that great summer movie director, Michael Bay, so you know he will not settle for anything less than a quarter of a billion dollars domestic gross.

6. Fantastic Four- Rise of the Silver Surfer ($220 million domestic gross)The only other franchise with Jessica Alba in it to make money is Sin City. The Fantastic Four franchise is for comic book geeks that also love SpiderMan, so this is a real no-brainer. The unknown component is the fact that the director, Tim Story, is only known for the last Fantastic Four movie, which most critics, including this one, despised. Let's hope he has more depth for the storyline than the last one!

7. The Simpsons Movie ($180 million domestic gross)The preview for this movie did not set the theaters ablaze, but it does have a built in TV audience that is very curious as to what a movie version of their beloved Simpsons clan can offer that a Fox Tv show cannot. I am curious as well.

8. The Bourne Ultimatum ($150 million domestic gross)Matt Damon is coming into his own as the amnesiac Jason Bourne, so it looks to do better than the last Bourne movie. That one actually helped create a better James Bond movie with the brilliant Daniel Craig doing a Matt Damon impression and knocking the franchise into the 21st century. Hopefully director Paul Greengrass can continue his winning streak and knock this one into the bleachers.

9. Rush Hour 3 ($120 million domestic gross)Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker both are desperate for any kind of a hit these days, so this movie could not come at a better time for both. The last one did over $300 million worldwide, so look for this one to do a little worse, but not by much.

10. Ocean's Thirteen ($110 million domestic gross)Speaking of needing hits, Brad Pitt and George Clooney would like to stuff their bank accounts with some moolah stolen from yet another casino, and this looks to be the final "Ocean's" film for Steven Soderburgh, or at least let's hope!

There you have it. Go ahead and write down your own top 10 list and see how you do, and I'll see you in the fifth row.
