The Ultimate Mobster Movies by Hein Kok

Which mobster movies have stood the test of time? Chances are that you have probably seen them or heard lines from those movies. Read on to find out which movies make my list of the ultimate mobster movies.

The Godfather series:

Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppella joined forces to create the first and greatest trilogy of all time: The Godfather. This trilogy traces the early life of New York's most powerful mafia family, the Corleones. Coppella takes the viewer on an epic journey revealing the Corleone's early days and rise to power as a "legitimate" family business. This trilogy includes some of the best-remembered lines like "I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse" and "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes" just to name a few. The Godfather Part I was released in the early 70s, Part II late in the 70s, and Part III early in the 90s. With powerful performances like Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, this mobster classic has stood the test of time.

Scarface:

This violent but realistic movie portrays the rise and fall of Antonio Montana, a Cuban. Directed by Martin Bregman, Scarface shows how one man, Tony Montana, believed in the American dream but became rich through drug trafficking and ultimately paid the ultimate price; death. Scarface failed in the box office but shortly after release became extremely popular as people rushed to rent and buy the movie. The great Al Pacino delivered yet another riveting performance as Tony Montana, however other actors like Steven Bauer and Michelle Pfeiffer performed well, too.

Goodfellas:

Directed by Martin Scorsese, Goodfellas focus on the lives of some wise guys. This movie is funny, thrilling, and action packed. The movie offers a glimpse into the wise guy lifestyle and their brutally simple look on life. Goodfellas is one of the ultimate mobster movies because it focuses on the little guys in the mob, the wise guys, and brilliantly shows the positive and negative aspects of "the life".

The Untouchables:

Rated by some as the best mobster movie since the epic Godfather trilogy, The Untouchables focuses on the policemen who finally caught Al Capone. This movie shows how special agent Eliot Ness worked tirelessly to end illegal alcohol trafficking during prohibition and finally catch Al Capone. This classic includes great performances by Robert De Niro and Sean Connery.
